Thought I'd put down here the guild rules for our older members and our newer ones. We have recently had a large influx of recruiting requests, and this should help answer a lot of questions about what it means to belong to Vengeance.

This is the speech I give to prospective members.

--

Vengeance has only one hard and fast rule: Be Nice.
"Be Nice" has a surprisingly large number of facets in a game like DaoC.

We respect our enemies. We never jump on their corpses or laugh. We bow, salute, wave, or (most appropriate for the chicks) kiss. Use your best judgement and behave responsibly when killing our fellow players. If you wish to disrespect a player who disrespected you, the most effective way to do this is to kill them and ignore their corpse. Repeatedly.

We conduct ourselves politely in guild chat, group chat, and most especially alliance chat. We do not curse or berate other players for playing a situation badly. We train, we discuss, but we don't criticize. If you feel the need to rant, use private tells to your best online friends, or find me or an officer.

We share mob camps when possible and work to accomodate our realm mates whenever we can. We go out of our way to rezz the fallen or help with a quest.
If you are mistreated by a realmmate, bring it to the attention of Axe or an officer. We will discuss the problem with their guildmaster.

Vengeance respects the time of our players. We never make demands on peoples' time. If someone needs to log, we don't make them feel guilty for leaving a good xp group. I may post a date and time for a relic raid, but I will never be upset with someone for not making it. This is a game, and "obligation" and "fun" rarely coexist peacefully together.

We never ask for powerlevelling. We don't beg for money or gear or XP in guildchat. All of these things may be offered to you in the course of our time together, but never impose yourself on the time of another player. It's all about respect.

Finally, Vengeance is not for everyone. We have had prominent members of our community leave the guild and remain on good terms after our separation. Redblade, Dieter, and Viconia are all former Vengeance players who we still work with frequently. If you ever decide to leave the guild, I ask that you speak with me personally before you do. I will either fix the problem or assist you in finding a guild that meets your needs.

The simple concept of be nice, have fun and respect for the individual is what attracted me to Vengeance and keeps me here.  It is indeed a powerful and successful concept.  For me, it out weighs my own personal feelings about the the game DAoC as a whole.  I feel that it is a privledge to be associated with so many nice people.  You certainly are a unique and pleasant bunch Vengies!!

Lifesbane

as reinn said, a simple but teribly effective rule that has made this game/guild tons of fun for me
p.s. i think axe and all of our officers are doing a great job, especially in recruitment and stuff, mad props guys

Axecleaver

Bumped, for her pleasure.

Axecleaver

Phew. I thought i did something wrong and someone bumped it.

This is why I love this guild so. Even though I'm not the most active of players, or very knowledgable when it comes to certain things...I never feel stupid for asking. Everyone is very helpful and caring. Yeah the smack talk comes about, but that's what makes us so at ease with one another. I couldn't have found a better bunch people to hang out with online. You guys and gals are the best!!!  /em Group hug!!

Axecleaver

I feel the same way. I've talked about this before, but it bears mentioning again. I plan to play MMORPGs for a long time to come. When DaoC has finally lost its shine, I hope that the rest of you will be interested in sticking together. Reinn and Tydd and some other people have already gone off to Earth and Beyond, and I'm sure we'll all be trying out the Next Best Thing before too long. I hope we can all coordinate our efforts and manage to make those moves together.

"If you feel the need to rant, use private tells to your best online friends, or find me or an officer"

Woops... I think I violated that one a few times. And here I always thought people enjoyed my rants in guild chat about how overpowered skalds and assassins are. :\

I don't think anybody minds.

Spirit of the Law > Letter of the Law.

Gueuze

Yeah, definitely a big difference between the following two rants:

1)  F*&&*^* Echoic!

2) F*&&*^* Axecleaver!

I always handle that 2nd one in tells.
