Here are the types of Necromancers quoted from cryptofalbion.com

"Melee Necro: The melee necromancer is fully specialized in the Death Servant spec. His pets, buffs, damage shields, and PBAOE nukes are the best that he can get. The Death Servant spec is mostly composed of close-range spells and combat buffs for a melee pet. Speccing 50 into Death Servant will get you this type of necromancer.
Support Caster Necro: Some desire to be more of a support caster than a nuker or meleer. A split between Deathsight and Painworking will give you most of your nukes and many support options including the power transfer spells in the Deathsight line. The Power transfer is your most supportive line of spells, though speccing anywhere in Deathsight still makes you a viable nuker. However, splitting the spec between one line and the other will make your damage more varied across the board. DoTs are more for keep defense and serve an offensive support option.

Offensive Nuker Necro: If you want to nuke, go all the way for Deathsight. That line provides you with most of the one-on-one nuking power that you need for offense against both casters and melee. Even though you may not have the best pet buffs, you will definitely have the nuking offensive power that one could expect from a Wizard or Eldritch. You will also get an absorption buff to protect your pet when in melee-range, though keep in mind that full Deathsight means you are basically a caster now, and not a tank or hybrid.

Hybrid Necro: So you come from playing a Thane, Warden, or Friar and your fine butt wants to play something with melee AND casting. This is definitely possible with a Necromancer, but remember that you are still a caster when not in shadeform... so you will be as vulnerable as any other caster when that pet dies! To make yourself into a hybrid necro, you should split your spec between Deathsight and Death Servant. Deathsight gives you casting capabilities and the AF debuff. Death Servant gives you better pet heals and pet buffs... as well as that nifty Bone Spikes damage shield, which is excellent for melee. You will be neither great at nuking, nor great at melee, but you'll be a little of both, which makes you a wonderful little hybrid!

The DoT-Masta Necro: Full Painworking spec will give you all of the DoTs you could ever need! This role will be the toughest to play, since Painworking is seen to be a tad on the weak side. You may wish to slightly split this with Deathsight or Death Servant in order to gain some nuking or offensive power to counter the slow, but deadly DoTs. "

So anyways, I'm contemplating whether I should go nuking Necro or Melee Necro. I'm thinking melee, just because in diablo II, i found that a poisen specced necro is better than a caster or minion necro.

i think the new alb classes are lookin pretty cool...might start a necro if i decide to get SI

Oh, do your regular stats pertain to the pet's stats? for instance, would being a briton and putting some strngth into your necro add to your pet's strength? And would adding inteligence add to your pet's intelligence?

Am I the only one who thinks if you don't roll an SI class you're gonna be nothing but an RP cow? Some of the weapon styles and spells given to the new classes are way beyond what all the old chars can spec in.

Look at the reaver level 50 flexible style - it procs a freaking 153 damage DD.

The entire valewalker "scythe" style line just makes me sick: http://www.camelotherald.com/styles/line.php?line=125

(note the PBAE proc on the level 39 style)
