For the DC-area Vengies, looks like WHFS (the alt-rock station was converted to Spanish music at noon today:

QuoteAfter close to 35 years as a cutting-edge rock 'n' roll radio station serving  the nation's capital, Infinity Alternative WHFS/Washington signed off the air  today at noon. The station is presently stunting by playing liners for both  Spanish AC KXOL (El Sol 96.3) and Regional Mexican KLAX (La Raza) in Los Angeles  and Puerto Rico trimulcast "La Zeta 93," followed by songs that best typify each  station's presentation. However, Infinity has announced that the station will  flip to Tropical as "El Zol 99.1." R&R has learned the move will be made at  some point tomorrow under the assistance of Spanish Broadcasting System National  PD Pio Ferro. A move to Spanish-language programming signals the next stage in  an agreement forged between SBS and Infinity in October 2004 that gives Infinity  a 10% equity interest in SBS in exchange for what is now Regional Mexican KRZZ  (La Raza)/San Francisco.

From what I hear, the on-air talent didn't find out until 10am today. No more Sports Junkies, no more Loveline, no more HFStivals, Holiday Nutcrackers, or 99-cent shows. Me am depressed :(

Zutroy

That sucks dude. Clear channel has ruined just about every radio station in my city.

Is Zol just a phonetically spelled version of Sol? It doesn't seem to translate into anything.

Sodom

Yeah, I'd guess so. Their new logo is a sun, if that's any indication.

Foopei

Well I know this probably won't make you feel any better but NYC hasn't had anything resembling decent radio for at least a decade, except maybe way down at the fuzzy low-wattage end of the dial.

Axecleaver

Mrs Axe told me about this last night. Sux! The Post had a nice retrospective of the history of the station last night. HFS was owned by Infinity, who had trouble competing against Clearchannel's DC-101 (they weren't really that close imo).

One more reason to go to satellite radio. Hearing songs in their original form is worth paying for.

Legellyn

Agree w/Axe.  Oh well, good bye to one more good thing. :(

Siddhartha

Wow - HFS was one of the few radio stations that ever played my single.

Zutroy

now that's a tease

hook us up with an mp3 of your song sidd (as long as it doesn't suck)

edit - had to add that last part

Siddhartha

Well - if we'd been great I wouldn't be working this crap-ass-soul-in-a-jar job...

Anyway, I'm getting the video digitized (I don't have the original). I'll post it when its done.

Prepare to be shocked by the hair down to my ass.

The song is half-way decent too or at least I don't cringe when I listen to it.

Zutroy

that's cool, can't wait to see it

what type of music do you guys play?

Lifesbane

Death Metal

Sidd's on the left

Siddhartha

This was a while ago - I stopped playing in '98. You could term us as "progressive rock" I guess. Or notverygood rock - that would work too. :-)

Siddhartha

um..yeah - that's not me though. But close.

Legellyn

Well, now we all know what to get Sidd for his birthday....black eyeliner!!

Foopei

more like a bottle of squeeze-on shoe polish
