Commuting

I recently got laid off (as most of you know) and was fortunate enough to get a part time, 2 day a week gig on the other side of the city. Since it's the summer, commute times are shorter than other times of the year (about 15% less people commuting on a daily basis.) Still, it's anywhere from 1h15m to 2h each way.

So the last few days I find myself drifting off while driving on the Capital Beltway. Usually I'll come to and wonder where the hell I am. Once I drove past my exit and had to turn around (it took about 10 minutes for me to figure that one out.)

Is this normal? I can tank trees for 6 hours at a stretch, you would think I could stay awake for 2 hours to commute.

Maybe you've got my problem.

I can play games for hours on end, clicking repeatively, targetting, killing, rinse repeat. But I'll be damned if i can sit on a couch for more than 2 hours watching TV.

I just need interaction, i can't be passive. This is also why you will frequently find me pitching a fit when we are sitting there doing nothing, waiting for people before RvR.

And driving is even worse.  its like corporal punishment for those with my type of personality. I've been known to forget whole 100 mile stretches of road when im driving, only to realize i SHOULD be paying attention to the cars around me.

Yes, I have the same problem (sorry to hear about the layoff, btw, that sucks immensely).

I frequently find myself forced to cut off several lanes of I-75 traffic to use the appropriate exit on my way home.  And my commute is only 1/2 hour or so!

all u need is a laptop and a cellphone and u can tank trees while u commute !  Although I think RvR would be outta the question ;)

That's a fantastic idea! I could tradeskill at the very least...

Sorry to hear about the layoff; good luck finding a new job.

Regarding the laptop/cell phone: I hear top download speed is about 14k, but that's from a magazine article several months old, so maybe it's improved a bit since then.

Have you tried coffee? Works wonders for me when I feel sleepy. =)
