A few quick impressions of my baby Necro

Ive started a necro on test based at Avalon castle, only still very small but thought i would post my initial impressions. Im still not actually a necro as such but will fix that tonite.

Im pretty much the typical caster stats wise and still naked without any armour but do have a staff. I start with a call zombie spell and a nuke which does a minimal amount of damage. Without my pet i am unable to cast any spells at this level other than to call a pet. Once the pet arrives I become etheral or ghostlike and it would seem I cant be hit and am barely visible. My form changes somewhat and i look a bit like the ghost like mobs in DF.

Now that I have a pet my spells all work but they work via the pet, I cant directly interact with the world in any fashion other than to pick up loot talk etc. Im unable to melee or cast spells directly on the mob. When I attempt to do so my pet actually does the casting for me and so far the spells I have are a DD, Debuff, a couple of buffs and a heal over time type spell. The pet at lvl 1 is yellow to me but it would seem the pet doesnt necessarily maintain parity in level as you climb higher. But new pet spells should arrive, it will be interesting to see what types of undead can be called forth.

I seem to be in zero danger of getting agro when my pet fights since im only half there but my health would seem to be intimately linked to the health of my pet. The moment my pet dies 95% of my health is gone also, so as a consequence a necro would seem to live or die with his or her pet, you are so sick when your pet dies that running is not an option and you are a hit or two from death at best.

Ill post some more thoughts on this as i learn more.

I'm curious to know whether, if  your pet's been fighting a mob, the mob automatically attacks you if you release a pet in mid-fight to avoid the massive health hit (i.e. release the pet while it's still got a decent amount of its life left).

Am I the only one that didn't get a beta CD? :(

Well I got into a fight i knew i was destined to loose, so i tried the release and run trick. The moment I released my health sunk and a moment later the mob had caught and killed me so this would seem a less than viable option. Health seems to vanish at the moment of release and aggro transfers at the same instant. My level 4 pet is blue to me btw which is sad given i totally rely on the pet when fighting. I find health regen can help a lot but   the life steal consumes a huge amount of mana and while i see no interupt messages does seem to be interupted or ineffective once combat is joined.

Good info. It seems like these will be challenging to play.

They seem to be very hard.  I have had no luck with my baby Necro.  One thing is you can start to float away mid fight.  At a point, it will tell you that you will loose your stealth, and will loose your pet in 10 seconds because you are too far away from your pet.  This may be enough time to flee to saftey, even with the dramatic health loss
