Check out this 'professionally written' article on the state of the archer class:

http://camelotvault.ign.com/editorials/archer.shtml

This was written by a level 48 hibernian blademaster. Guess which of the 3 archer classes needs the most help according to her?

Noreen

I personally do not feel that there is any inherent problem with the Scout class. They have decent melee ability, fair defense, and a unique specialization that does work against most forms of attack. I know that as a Blademaster Scouts using Crush Arrows can slaughter me before I reach them unless I use my realm abilities of Ignore Pain, or First Aid. The difference between these and Rangers or Hunters is that once I reach them they seem to be able to put up a much better fight, sometimes even by using a shield stun against me and shooting me again before I get free, other times by simply running away and stealthing. These facts tell me that the class has good offense, as well as good defense, and I cannot find any flaw aside from the general archery problems with it.

LOL

hmm thats a pretty falw in itself ;P

What are my opinions on Rangers? Simple. The Ranger class suffers most in my opinion from a lack of specialization points, they get a 2x multiplier on their specialization points, like most classes do, but also must spec many lines to defend themselves in melee range. They currently must specialize in a minimum of five lines: Bow, Path finding, Stealth, Weapon Type, and Celtic Duel Wield. When asking what abilities Rangers should get from my realm-mates I was given many answers, but most didn’t notice this until I pointed it out.

Umm.. so theyre supposed to be able to have everything?? WTF is this guy tlaking about.. the point of them having so many abilities is they should have to pick and choose, they cant have full Bow, stealth, Path, CD and Weapon FFS..

Rangers:
As a unique ability (and due to them having to specialize in 5 spec lines) Rangers should receive 2.2 specialization points per level.

ohh yes thats a good idea.. why dont we give them evade 7 while we're at it cause they dont have enough spec points for pathfinding :P

i was about ready to kill somebody when i read that the first time...archers get an editorial on ign and its written by a bm...who hasnt played any of the archer classes...

This thread pretty much sums up my opinions on it:

http://vnboards.ign.com/message.asp?topic=41070037&replies=58

At the very least read VeteranGamer's replies and how she attempts to justify her expertise on archers and why we're not allowed to critisize her for her opinions.

Oh, and I took the liberty of looking up her credentials based on her 'vast knowledge' of RvR:

Ameliana Sayruun
Member of Daorsainn
48th level Celt Blademaster
Cosantoir (Rank 2!)
Guinevere

Data current as of 2002-12-01 1:23 PM EST
This character has been logged in within the last 24 hours.

Realm vs Realm information:
Realm points: 54,003
Realm points earned this week: 0
Total deaths in RvR combat (since 06/26/02): 16
Deaths in RvR combat this week: 0
"I Remain Standing" score: 0.00

Casual or not, there's no way you can only die 16 times in the last 5 months and claim to know anything about RvR.

Edit - DOH! LB beat me to the thread link :(

Axecleaver

That has to have been the most uninformed article on archers I've ever read. Retarded ^ 2.

Caohmin

She's a 48 Blademaster!

What's funny is her defense: It's just my opinion! Yep, no matter how uniformed it may be, it's just what I think!

Zutroy

Well, it looks like she had a talk with Oakleif (scout TL) and she's gonna do a resubmit after getting all her facts straight. This was truely an embrassment to IGN and I hope they're a little more selective about what they post as featured editorials in the future.

I think it was a huge mistake on her part to open her "what my level 48 BM with no RvR experience thinks of this class" series using archers. I realize her point was to start a debate using a controversial subject, but most of the actual discussion has just been over her lack of credibility. One of the first things they teach you in debate class is to establish credibility with your audience which, aside from the trite "my friend plays one" and "I leveled one to 20 once" attempts, was never done. However, for whatever reason (maybe conceitedness), she wasn't able to grasp why she was being critisized in her replies and simply wrote them off as personal attacks.

Whatever... SI comes out tomorrow so my Scout is retired from RvR for awhile anyway.
