I stayed up until 4:30am last night playing Planetside with Zutroy. I spec'd ino hovertank, and zut was my gunner. That was, by far, the most fun I've had in the game since I started goofing off with it.

I've got a lot to learn about driving a tank. I tended to stay committed to the battle a touch too long and getting us blown up. But the last couple runs were great. Zut shot about 3 or 4 airplanes out of the sky with the main tank turret, which I've never seen anybody do. It was quite silly, on one occassion he just took one shot and BLAM the airplane blows up.

Was a nice switch from RvR last night, which was taking FOREVER to happen. If anybody else wants to join us, Sidd and Zaius are playing with us too on Emerald/Vanu Sovereignty (puple).

Heh, sounds like fun. How long would it take a newbie to 'catch up' to you guys?

The way experience works in Planetside is pretty nice. You gain battle ranks by killing people and capturing bases. You start with 2 certification points, and each battle rank = 1 certification point. You use your certs to get access to vehicles and weapons. So, for example, I'm BR 9 and have Medium Assault (2), Reinforced Armor(3), Hovertank (3), and Engineer(3).

But the sweet thing is, my rifles don't shoot any harder and I am no tougher to kill than a BR1 n00b. The only thing more certs gives you is flexibility: if I blow up my tank too fast, I might have to wait a few minutes before I get a new one, so I can take my assault spec and go shoot some fools while I wait. So you can truly have new people fighting next to experienced people without any real advantages or disadvantages.

There's also a 24 hour respec option. You can remove 1 certification every 24 hours and immediately replace it. Over the past 4 days I've spec'd into and out of: antivehicle weaponry, special assault weapons (disposable rocketlauncher, grenade launcher, and rocklet rifle), Reaver (gunships), and sniping.

Also you can get to BR3 by going into the training area and equipping every armor and drawing and shooting every gun, plus driving every vehicle. You get training xp in the field by equipping enemy weapons that you have certs for -- like I have Medium assault, so I get xp the first time I loot and shoot a terran assault rifle.

Zutroy

Ya, that was a great couple of runs we had last night. Beats getting killed over and over by snipers and maxes.

What's Zaius and Sidd's names there? I tried to look them up on the planetside character database thingie and it said no matches.

Sodom

Zaius has told me he hasn't had muc chance to play recently - we're both working the 11pm to 7am shift now (at different employers), so I can understand. He's offered to let me use his account, we just need to get together so I can borrow the disk :)

Bolldar Bloodaxe

that sounds like fun i might pick it up, how much is it per month to play?

Axecleaver

$13, a little steep for a FPS IMHO but running people over with a tank makes me giggle.

Tydd

Giggle?   I'm sorry I can't see the great and mighty Axecleaver giggling.

Axecleaver

Can you see me driving a hovertank? How about running off the road and crashing in a ravine? I did that about 5 times last night.

Amberryl

weeeeee, sounds fun ^^

Kirin

Man ill pick this up in a month if youre still playin it
