"PVP didn't ruin UO, PVP is the only thing that made it worth playing in the first place..what ruined it was catering to the whines of people who couldn't hack it in real PVP"

LOL yes real PvP takes real guts and a bravery rofl .....you know what takes guts in my book ? Being able to refrain from being a perfect idiot to others and ruining their paid for past time.So many times fun has been ruined in the name of you cannot hack it excuse what is really the fun.Vexing people and following them around and bothering them and harrasing them all in the name of trying to be a victor.

Fun takes different forms .I enjoy helping people but you enjoy frustrating them so who is to say which is cowardly or more fun.

Trammel just took your victims away ,people who enjoyed PvP in the way it was could have stayed in the server with like minded opponents. What Trammel gave was an option to leave and looks like many chose it.That was what ultimately ruined it for those that enjoyed making others their victims they were left with true opponents. If you were true to your choice you should have been happy with the people that were left afterall they were all people that could "hack it" so to speak.

All the time I hear complaints about how consensual PvP takes away the fun from all of the hard core PvP people because they cannot kill people anytime anywhere.Yet everytime a server is opened for exactly that type of PvP free for all it will have low populations like Andred and Mordred.Or a whole game like SB .What I think the main objection is the lack of people who are not able to play well those that cannot hack true PvP because those are the people you can bully and beat and you object to them being able to choose not to fight.

And this is why nobody plays Legacy2 for more than a week.

I played UO through all of that. It's true; as soon as Tram opened those 'hardcore PvP'ers' whined about that game being ruined but the fact is they ran out of victims and were just left with people who wanted to...wait for it...PvP.

Then they turned into bank-sitting poseurs with all their l33t rares riding nightmares, lol.

I think one of the main reasons DAOC was so successful was because it basically forced you to stay with the team you'd chosen since you were level 1. This spread out the talent level between realms and made things alot more competitive and fun for the little guy.

The cause of the failures of mordred and the other full PvP games were because there wasn't a barrier to switching sides. It was too easy to join the winning team and there was no incentive to fight against the winning team since you'd always lose. How many of us would be playing on mid/iseult now if we had the option of transfering all our characters there?

I think changing sides did contribute to the problem, but the major reason for their failure is that the overwhelming majority of online players don't want that kind of PvP. They want to be able level their characters without having to be on guard 24/7. UO was starting to fail and the reason was the unrestricted PvP.

Splitting the shards breathed new life back into the game and the subscription numbers today are similar to DAoC's, even though UO is 7 years old. After the shard split, Origin stated that population split between the 2 worlds were 80% Trammel, 20% Felucca. The people voted with their feet and moved.

To quote Axe, speaking of himself in the third person, as is his custom: "Axe likes a little carebear in his PvP." This is very typical of the average player. The players that want unrestricted PvP are an extreme minority of the players.

Unrestricted PvP can be a cancer that eats away at itself, hence the Mordred/Andred server merge. People thought that it was a great idea at first and tried it out. Both servers had booming populations. When they found that they couldn't level their characters without getting ganked, they left and didn't look back.

I think if they let people /charcopy to Mordred/Andred (whichever one's left), more people might play there, at least periodically.
