I found an interesting quote from the designers this morning.

"Player-created content. We put the player community in the designer's seat. Using industry standard tools, you can create new textures and even 3-D models and submit them to the peer-reviewed web site for incorporation into the game. And you own what you create - if you design a new sword hilt or throne or sail design texture, you can make it freely available or charge for it within the game world. Earn in-game income from the sales of your designs! Or keep them to yourself and customize your own unique gear to the nth degree."

Now, I doubt very much that people will be open to the idea of paying for stuff. But I think what people will do, is have a lot of customized art for guilds. So every guild member could have not only a guild cloak and ship sail, but a guild scabbard, a guild helmet, etc etc. Kind of neat.

How long before some jackass figures out how to crash my machine with a nasty texture? Send in Boris the Texture Killer! He'll lag them to death and we'll burn the city!

hehe i was just thinking something like that. wouldnt having tons of custom textures/models tend to lag the crap out of people? and we'd have to download every texture/model that anyone decided to use right?

Yeah, this may be one of those "cool to have" features that gets killed before the first beta.
