Title: What I learned from dueling
Post by: Sodom on Nov 13, 2002, 01:06 PM
Plate-wearers' supposed weakness vs. crush is highly overrrated. With proper resist buff items, I was hitting Axe for -33 damage with my 98% quality heavy shod staff.

Defense spec pallys are effectively invulnerable vs. low-damage output characters. Using my highest-speed staff, I couldn't outpace Axe's healchant, even with self-haste.

2-hander Pallys are still gimp. Which sucks, because they're the only 2-hander users you're likely to see anymore.

There are effectively no uses for the low-delay staves in PvP. Friars can not absorb enough hits to make the "death-of-a-thousand-cuts" strategy efective.

You can't rely on procs in combat. If you have to choose between a proccing drops staff, and an unenchanted playermade, go playermade. Of course, now that spellcrafting is in, not much of an issue.

Nerf stun, esp for those of us that can't inflict it without going through a 3-step chain :(

Sodom's record (# of opponents, not duels):
vs. 2-hand Pallys - 2 and 0
vs. Shield Pallys - 0 and 2
vs. Scouts - 2 and 0
vs. Infils - 0 and 1
vs. Mercs - 0 and 1

(All vs. lvl 50 opponents, maybe when I hit 50 stats will change)

I'm available to add an Armsman to your records. =)

With the first staff you had me down to within a couple of hits. I believe once you hit 50 you will be able to beat me 1 time out of 3 or 4 if not more.

Reflex attack will help a lot, especially versus the 1h users and DW'ers.

Oh, is faith heal/IP/FA fair game? I haven't been using mine. Then again, I haven't really needed to.

I think the self heals are fair game, after all, I've spent most of my points on passive abilities that I *can't* turn off, you shouldn't be penalized because you *can*.

That just means I've got to head out to the frontier and earn some rsp's so I can get some FA of my own.

However, they whole running around / strafing bit should be agreed upon ahead of time, at least for melee classes. Casters are expected to prance about little frightened girls ;)

I haven't actually heard what is 'fair game' and what is not. I would think that anything goes, so I'm looking for a big boost from spellcrafting. =P

Also, I'm only a few hundred RPs from IP and I dinged 48 last night. =)

hehe, great job Caoh!   You'd probably have had a mini ding as well if we hadn't spent hours messing with the hibs that decided to camp out in the Ellyll castle.

I would guess FA/IP is technically fair game, although I would choose not to waste it on a duel, when I might need it to avoid an XP death or kill a real live Mid within the next 10 minutes.

Yeah, I think it depends who you're dueling. I haven't had to use it yet, but I think if I were dueling some punk who needed to go down, I'd probably use it. And if they used it first, I'd use it.

Potions? Fair game? So far they have not been.

Actually, Ross, with all the mobs we were aggroing (after the wipeout) I came out way ahead with exp. =)

Elau helped me get almost 2k in RPs, so it was well worth it.
