Title: Great quotes
Post by: Sodom on Nov 05, 2002, 01:20 PM
I was poking around the GIGA quote archives, looking for something to drop in an email to look clever and sophisitcated, when I came across this one:

Behold, on wrong
Swift vengeance waits; and art subdues the strong.
      - Homer, Odyssey (bk. VIII, l. 367), (Pope's translation)

In light of that, here's a little gem that came to mind:

"English, mother f&$*er, do you speak it?"
-Samuel L. Jackson

Any man who can drive safely while kissing a pretty girl is simply not giving the kiss the attention it deserves.

"Ambition is a poor excuse for not having sense enough to be lazy."
-- Charlie McCarthy

"How strange is the lot of us mortals! Each of us is here for a brief sojourn; for what purpose we know not, though sometimes sense it. But we know from daily life that we exist for other people, first of all for whose smiles and well-being our own happiness depends."
--Albert Einstein

"The first thing you must know about me is that I always stand what I stand for. Good? The second thing you must know about yourself listening to me is that words are tricky. So when you know what me a stand for, when me explain a thing to you, you must never try to look 'pon it in a different way from what me a stand for."
                  --Bob Marley

By the time they had diminished from 50 to 8, the other dwarves began to suspect "Hungry."  Larson

I think that all good, right thinking people in this country are sick and tired of being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being told that all good, right thinking people in this country are fed up with being sick and tired. I'm certainly not, and I'm sick and tired of being told that I am. -MontyPython

From the moment I picked your book up until I put it down I was convulsed with laughter. Some day I intend reading it. -GrouchoMarx

Cats are smarter than dogs. You can't get eight cats to pull a sled through snow.  Valdez, Jeff

Waco kid: Well, I dunno... Play chess... Screw....
Sherrif: Well, lets play chess.

You must be really, really bored with that 14.4k connection.

Discuss any good loot you got for Christmas here:

I got the online adapter for my PS2. My buddies and I (about 7 of us) are all getting the Navy Seals game (Socom).

Lord of the Rings 4 DVD set -- nice. Fists of Fury and Enter the Dragon -- supasweet. Activision retro compilation. All the Atari 2600 hits from my youth. Complete with 80's soundtrack.

Laser Blast was my first powergaming experience. If you got to 100,000 you could take a picture of the screen and send it in to ACtivision, and they would give you a certificate to say you were uber, or something. One night I was in the zone and powergamed up to 262,000. You couldn't pause the game and there was no way to leave it for more than a half second or you died. Took me forever. I sent in my picture to Activision and they returned a letter that said the camera flash obscured the score. Which was total BS! So I didn't get my Laser Blast certificate of uberness.

the only cool thing i got for christmas was a new guitar amp (my last one got stolen, i miss it, /cry) and it wasn't even a christmas gift... I was just like, "Dad, give me $200 so i can buy a new guitar amp cause i have a concert in 2 days, and it will be an early christmas gift..."

I gave away a lot of cool stuff...
I got splinter cell for xbox for my brother... such an uber game...
and i got my brother and his college roomate simpsons shot glasses, so now they have something new to laugh at when they get piss drunk...

Got Battlefield 1942 (friggin resource hog, but very cool), Band of Brothers DVD set, James Bond DVD box set, and some other crap.  I probably mentioned this in-game, but my wife got a sw33t vintage (1950's or 60's) Coca-Cola vending machine, the kind where you have to open a door and pull out the bottle.  Unfortunately (not), since I didn't have enough bottles of Coke, now you can put in a dime or quarter or something and pull out a bottle of beer.  :)   mmm, beer...

Dealing with relatives i didn't even know i had, and sitting there watching people stare at me at dinner saying "My my Steven, your such a big boy!" Yeah, i've only been a freak of nature for all my life now :P

Bah Humbug!

I got mostly all cash, some gift certificates, clothes, my mom got me an Xbox, and a GameCube. Got SpilnterCell for Xbox and Super Smash Bros. Melee for Game Cube.

Man, and I thought she really liked the electric blanket I got her. I should have got her a snow-cone machine ;)

My favorite gift of course was sharing the day with my girl, in the swanky little place she got for us.

Other than that... My mom got me a bunch of stuff to hang on the walls of my apt., I got LOTR and the Back to the Future trilogy on DVD, a Simpons bottle opener (it says "Mmmm... beer" and "Woohoo!" when you open bottles with it), gift certificates, some drinking glassses (I keep breaking mine somehow)...

But really, who cares about lewtz when you have a guildie to duo with, in every sense of the word?
