Some of the BS in this thread is amazing. After playing an Eld to 43 and being told that "Archers are supposed to kill casters" and to "get a group" or "group with a PBTer", I finally decided it was time to roll a Ranger. So I did. I leveled him to 24 at first. I checked out BG1 where I one shot casters, that was wrong and should NEVER happen. Then the level 50 Archers said, "oh but wait until BG3 where assassins have SH and PBT is available".
So I leveled up to 35 and visited Cale. My fredom was reduced, I could no longer pick people off out of a group and get away with it. I still one shot casters, which again is WRONG. I got killed by assassins with SH but only after I took a risky chance at killing someone in a group out in the open with no protection. IMO that is a even deal, I chose to take the shot and I paid the price for taking the shot. In a group I was just as effective aside from the occasional PBT which I was able to counter with a faster bow. Yada, yada, yada.
So then the level 50 archers tell me that oh yeah its much different at level 50 with 6 second PBT, resists, etc. So once again I leveled up and am now at 47. I joined a MMG stand off today in Emain where i raked in realm points like no ones business. I don't have a single other character that is able to rake in half the RPS as fast as my Ranger even though he is 47 and some of my other characters are 50. I didn't see one shot deflected by PBT. My fumble rate was very low, so low in fact that I don't even recall a single fumble. I had some misses. That was an area of concern considering that at 47 my bow skill is 41+11. I even missed a zerker while zerked. Aren't zerkers supposed to lose all their defences when they go into rat mode? Apparently Mythic's definition of losing one's defenses is different than mine. Anyway, my Ranger is THE MOST effective class I have played in RvR.
I do believe that there might be some issues with the archer classes but, some of the people posting to this thread are way off their rocker.
- Re-examine the miss rate. Do archers recieve the same bonuses to hit that two handed users or dual wielders recieve? Is there a bonus for 2 handers/DW'ers? Maybe Archers should recieve some to-hit bonus.
- DO NOT increase damage output and eliminate single shot kills completely.
- SH is a pain but it is partially effective in keeping archers from constant frontier keep ganking, leave it in until a better solution is devised.
- If archers are supposed to kill stuff with a combination of bow damage and melee then maybe melee effectiveness should be looked at.
- Evaded arrows is utter BS and IMO needs to go and I've even done my share of evading arrows as a Ranger.
- The implemetation of PBT is a problem for both the classes that have PBT and those that have to counter it. Do something with PBT but don't fail to compensate those poor PBT classes when you make an adjustement. For the morons posting here that don't know the classes that have access to PBT are the Warden (Hib), Runie (Mid), and Thurg. (Alb). The Warden and Thrug. have the most issues as a result of having PBT IMO but a PBT speced Runie is a problem too due to mana drain.
- Do NOT elminate sync'ed PBT unless you compensate PBT classes for the lose of effectiveness in thier defenses. Mythic don't change PBT like you did with keep lords unless you compensate PBT classes. It's not right to hurt classes because you are too lazy or stupid to devise and implement an effective fix that hurts a class unnessecarily.
The archer classes are in no way in deep poo. I could see some minor positive adjustments to the classes. The key is making the adjustments minor and avoiding increasing bow damage which would be a terrible mistake.
Archers are NOT broken. Archers are effective, more so than most any other class at a comprable level.
