OK, so I defragged my comp on windows and then it decides to make my internet connection not work... apparently, i dont have an IP adress. I'm on linux on the same computer and the internet is working fine, so i know its not a hardware problem. So I will be absent for a while until I figure out what Teh Ef is wrong with windows. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them. I'm thinking i just have to reinstall the drivers or whatever, but when i go under hardware profiles, it states that my hardware is working properly (haha).
Assuming you're using DHCP (i.e. getting the address from your internet provider), you may just need to release and renew your address. try going to a command prompt and typing ipconfig /release all and then ipconfig /renew
defragging your HD has absolutely nothing to do with your drivers, so I'd look elsewhere to solve this.
Yeah, if you do just a plain ipconfig and you see your machine's adress is a 169.x.x.x address, it means your machine is configured to pull an address from DHCP, but isn't getting one. If you're using a cable modem, you may need to power if off and then back on again.
ignore the two above posts amber, they SOUND good but obviously dont know what there talking about.
the _correct_ method of fixing any computer problem is the boot/reboot method:
1) locate the problem
2) firmly tie a boot onto the kicking foot of your choice
3) give the box a big ol' boot
4) check if its fixed, if not, continue to step 5
5) re-boot it ;)
6) re-boot it
7) re-boot it
8) check if its fixed, if not your obviously looking for the poblem in the wrong place, try a different peice of hardware (cable modem, moniter, speakers, are all viable options, and you never can be too thurough)
:) :) :)
I've already done all that, except for LB's idea (which im prolly gonna do in a minute.) That meansd I won't be on DAoC unless one of you knows how to get it working on linux...
you can keep posting ideas if you want, but chances are i've already done them. I think I'm just gonna format it anyways. Putting windows and linux on the same HD was a bad idea in the first place...
