Title: Friar HOT works as advertised
Post by: Sodom on Feb 16, 2003, 02:00 AM
According to Pendragon testing, the new friar HOT is truly a HOT, not a regen buff.

Big Sod's 25 in rejuv gives him access to the first HOT, which heals approx 37-46 hp per tick, with a tick every three seconds, over a duration of 15 seconds. That means a grand total of approx 230 hp every 15 seconds.

What does mean? Well, seeing as this is a group heal rather than a buff, it's pretty useless for PLing. In fact, the only real use for the spell, as I see it, is to negate the value of high-end damage buffs in RvR. Not that that's a bad thing - I don't expect much more from a lvl 24 ability. The Lvl 44 apparently heals 70-80 per tick, or 415 total. With a 4 second casting time, this in no way steps on the toes of the cleric group heals (their Rejuv line is still superior to ours, as it should be), but does make a nice engagement-opener and compliment to BoL, if you can get it off.

Sounds kinda like my healchant: mostly useless in real rvr, but helps negate the shammie/ment dots at keep sieges.

Is it more like a heal chant, or more like a shaman's Frigg's?  If it's like Frigg's, it's even less useful than healchant in that it only cycles every 14 seconds.  Great for downtime reduction at a cheap mana cost however.

Nope. It's like a DOT. Only heals instead of hurts. Hence the name HOT, or Heal Over Time. It's got an initial 4-second casting time, but once it's started it's fire-and-forget, effectively. It's group-targetted, but I'm unsure as to the range (probably similar to spread-heals and the like), or whether you have to stay within range to get subsequent ticks.

Sounds just like Frigg's, which means limited usefulness in combat.  Oh, and no one in your group will understand how it works--you'll be screaming 'SIT DOWN!' at your computer screen all the time.

Nope, not like friggs at all. Friggs work by upping the amount of health you recover on each "recovery" cycle. Friggs are of limited use in combat because the increased time between recoveries while in combat.

The friar HOT is JUST LIKE A DOT, ONLY HEALING INSTEAD OF HURTING. It is NOT a Frigg. It has a 15 second duration, with a tick every 3 seconds.

Please class, pay attention. This will be on the test.

My favorite part about the new friar friggs spell is how good it will be for PL.

What levels do they get it?

24/34/44. The 24-spec will heal about 150-200 hp total, the 44 will heal 300-350 total. Sod, with his 25 Rejuv, will get the first one. All indications are that it stacks with pally healchant, but I forsee it being useless with BoL running.

Also, no HOT for Zut. You were warned, people!

I need another skill respec stone. I was grouped with Vikar tonight, and now I am jealous of his resist buffs.

Possible new templates:

39 Staff, 49 Enh, 18 Rejuv, 9 Parry (6 unspent points)
34 Staff, 49 Enh, 25 Rejuv, 12 Parry (4 unspent points)

Top resists are a VERY nice tool to bring to a group. That 8% extra resist you get will very likely prevent more damage than an extra 20 trains in rejuv.
