I'm getting really frustrated with this game, again.  Seems like the guild doesn't really RvR together enough, and the mechanics of the game are starting to really work against my chosen class.  Last night, I hit a few Hibs with my dot..for all of 80 dmg a tick.  One heal from their druid negated every single bit of my dmg for the next 30 seconds.  I nuked with my lifetap.  Hit for 100 (-250)

Oh yeah, and I can't keep up with the zerg solo.  Slow ass cabalist.  

I guess I'm just frustrated in general.  I have been trying to think of ways to spice up my play time.  I considered switching over to a spirit spec, so i copied over to Pendragon and respecced, did a few tests.  

With a 46 spirit, i get the 50% body debuff. I then dueld a 49 paladin, who ran the body resist chant.  His body resistance was at 36%:

The first round, i crit debuffed him, leaving him with -50% body resistance. I nuked for 422 every time.  The second round, i didn't crit, leaving him with -36% resist, and hit for 380 dmg.  The third fight, i debuffed, cast lifetap 4 times, the first 3 were completely resisted.  

I need to run a few more tests, but I'm intrigued by the prospect of something..different.  380 dmg on average seems a bit low to me.  I could theoretically crit for up to 570.  That would allow me to take down a single warrior in about 4 to 5 casts, assumine he didn't blow IP or get a heal.  3 casts for a buffed caster.  

One thing is, I have to cast the debuff, then i have 15s to cast my lifetaps.  I don't have a stun (do have a root) like the enchanter, nor do i have a level 50 spell doing 350 base dmg like they do.  My baseline lifetap is 45, and gets resisted quite a bit.  I may not be able to stand in place long enough to nuke for 10 seconds.  At least my Matter spec gives me some mobility.

In addition, i would lose AoE dot, the longest effect Nearsight, and that super PvE dmg shield.  

Maybe i'll just wait till spirit spec gets a gimmick to make it really worthwhile, because as it stands now, the body debuff is the only reason to spec it.  

If anyone wants to copy a cleric or someone with a high level of body resist over, let me know.

Three things to mention --

If you go out without buffs, you're going to be sad. Nobody can solo without buffs anymore -- not assassins, not casters, not anybody. If Axecleaver left the PK with 65 shield and Mastery of Block 2 and no dex buffs, he wouldn't block once. Don't rvr without buffs.

Second, you're playing at a frustrating time, about 3-9pm, from what I can tell. When I get on you're usually getting ready to log for the night. It's a bummer because cabs really would help the fights we get into, that last a long time -- reapply the dots every 5 ticks then sprint in circles :)

Third, the spirit spec is frustrating and not like an enchanter mana spec, because the body debuff keys off a base 45 spell. It will be resisted more often just by virtue of it being level 45.

With buffs you should cap damage with it. Cap damage is always 3 x the delve value. So in the case of the 45 body nuke, that's a relatively small 140 * 3 or 420. (That's the 422 you noticed). With a brainbuff you should be able to cap nuke every time. But compare to the enchanter 179 level 50 light nuke which lands for 540.

On the other hand, that body debuff would let a minstrel tear people up. Their insta stun would last a full 9 seconds, and their shouts would be landing for around 250. (Delves for 114 but no brainbuffs.) Infiltrator dot poisons would be monsterous -- lifebane would do around 120 a tick.

I think my play time is definitely a factor.  Its not that I don't play enough, its just the time frame I have to play. I'm not sure there's really any way around it, as I can't change my work schedule, and I doubt my girlfriend is going to let me get away with neglecting her even more on the weekends :)

I did notice the resist problem with the L45 spell.  funny thing, the spec lifetap is 45 as well, poor body spec cabalist.  If i went all body, i could expec 180 * 3 = 540 dmg..but against a 26% resist, i'd hit for maybe 400 dmg, and against 50% resist (more common these days) only about 270.

Maybe if i respecced to spirit, siphonet would perma-group with me? :)

I was going to mention the same thing about playtime.  I was only on for a little while last night, but managed to get into a group that included 5 Vengeance people, and there were others around here and there as well.

They should have but the body resist debuff in the Sorc's mind line.

Malison, test out 45 body, 24 spirit as a comparison.  You'll get a 174 nuke (522 cap) and a 15% resist debuff.  Might be worthwhile to see if the higher dd spell and lower debuff is the way to go.  You'll also be getting ae disease, which can be very useful.

I tried to recopy Malison a few times over the past week.  They definitely changed the method since it first went in. In any case, it worked, then I accidently specc'd to 45 spirit instead of 46, and promptly deleted the character. I tried to recopy again, but it said "Only one copy allowed. You may already have a copy queue'd"

Just a bit of number crunching...
Spirit debuff provides 50% over list value for debuffed opponents.  So the -50% one will debuff anyone buffed for -75% (roughly).  The 15% debuff should give me up to 22%.

Assume spec lifetap hits for 520 dmg. Its a 90% life return.
Versus a no-buff gimp with 26% body resist, it will hit for:  
520 * .74 = 385 dmg, and return 346 life.
Versus a buffed hib with 52% body resist, it will hit for:
520 * .48 = 250 dmg and returns 225 life.

Now with the debuffs!
In the first case, the dmg is:
520 * (.74 + .15) = 462 dmg returns 415 life
In the second case, where a target is using buffs:
520 * (.48 + .22) = 364 dmg returns 327 life

Compare this to the spirit spec, using baseline lifetap with 60% life return:
420 * (.74 + .50) = 422 cap dmg returns 250 life
NOTE: Observed dmg is closer to 380 due to variance.
Or the buffed opponent:
420 * (.42 + .74) = 422 cap dmg returns 250 life

So, from these numbers, the spirit cabalist will do slightly more dmg versus fully buffed opponents, which I assume is the norm for RvR.  A spirit cabalist wouldn't be able to do the MoC lifetap trick as easily though, he'd only be getting back 250, while he'd be getting hit for 400.  The body cabalist could do it though, assuming he got that first debuff off.  Oh yeah, and since the 15% spirit debuff is low..its not likely to stick.

So let this be a lesson to future cabalists.  Useful Things you get for each spec

Once I get Malison copied over a couple of times, i'll try the body/spirit spec. Could use a couple of people who can buff body up to 50 or higher.

26% body
3% AoM
20% body chant

and I haven't tested it but I might be able to twist in the advanced resist for another 10% body resist (which caps with body chant at 26%), for 55% body resist.

Nice!  Copy over to Pendragon when you can and we'll run some tests.

Looks like I forgot to log the first run of spirit spec tests.  I was doing 380 dmg consistently, to a 38% body resist paladin.  Anyways, in the tests versus axecleaver with my 45 body 23 sprit spec the results are!

Body resist 29%, no debuff:

In the duels I did around 313 after the debuff, sometimes a low hit for 275.  Return about 300 life though!

Looks like if i were to respec, it definitely wouldnt be to body, seeing as a spirit debuff lets me do about 70 more dmg a cast easily, even more if i crit debuff.

One interesting thing to note:  With full spec body, the dmg is only 360 (before resists.)  A far cry from the 520 I was assuming before. Then again, I guess I'm only supposed to hit that on grey cons.
