Dark Age of Camelot

Test Version 1.62e Release Notes

Thursday, May 1, 2003

=====================================

Here's some fixes that weren't quite ready for Pendragon testing earlier this morning when we locked down the 1.62d version because they were not approved by our Product Quality department. They are ready for testing on Pendragon now.

NEW THINGS AND BUG FIXES

- Some of the spell changes did not make the transition from our internal patch server to Pendragon in 1.62d. Everything should now be as advertised on Pendragon.

- The 1.62d note: "Added a L50 DD, Obsidian Strike, in the Darkness base list to make it more consistent with the base lists in other Realms" also applies to Bonedancers.

MORE ARCHER NOTES

- We've adjusted the way we calculate fumbles for Archery. Archery attacks have always had fumbles calculated differently than regular melee attacks. We've reworked this part of the Archery fumble calculation to be more in line with the way melee fumbles work, meaning Archers should notice a substantial decrease in their fumble rates, somewhere on the order of 1/4 what they were.

- Camouflage timers will no longer be reset by PvE attacks. Only an attack by the Archer on another player or a pet or turret controlled by another player will reset the timer. Camouflage is designed to let the Archer scout in PvP situations, so PvE interactions should not affect its timer.

- NOTE: We have seen complaints that Archers miss their targets at a higher rate then melee fighters. Please be aware that we have run extensive tests as well as looked at the formulas and have found the miss rates for Archers and melee are the same. We will continue to look into this as more reports and logs are generated by Archers, but for now there are no miss fixes.

- NOTE: We are working on one more fix for Archers, a long awaited See Hidden adjustment. However, it is still going through testing here, and is not ready for today's version but will be ready soon. We are currently looking at a system which will vary the range that an assassin can see a non camouflaged hidden archer anywhere from 1/4 to 3/4 of the current range depending on the archer's stealth spec vs the assassin's level. On average this would mean an assassin would have to be within about 1/2 the range that he can see the archer from now. Look for more on this change soon.

/LEVEL NOTES

- We no longer exclude Pendragon level 50's from using the /level command.

- Using /level will now temporarily result in a level 20 character for testing on Pendragon

I'm guessing why archers notice more misses is because they never style and get +hit bonuses on their bows.

The fact that you have a relatively slow weapon compounds the problem, when you miss, you really notice the change in you DPS, i think this is similar to what most Armsman report with polearms.

I tried to take Lifesbane to the mid portal this morning, but he couldn't stealth past the naburite drinkers.  Need more stealth, and cowbell!

What i find really funny. They admit that they had archers on a different fumble rate after denying there was a problem. Fine fix the damn nerf.

Next step stop beating around the bush on our problem with misses. in RvR most attacks are styled attacks that have medium to high to hit bonus that take Endurance.

Archers do not get a To hit bonus on their shots but they consume endurance just like a styled attack. Give archers a to hit bonus on archer attacks. Once their endurance is used up then let them keep shooting but their shots have no bonus.

That would make it fair but it makes too much sense for them to implement.

Anybody else ready for the next game?

Interesting note:

I've never played a MMORPG where I wasn't nerfed (directly or indirectly)

I wonder if that will ever change.

"Anybody else ready for the next game?"

Yeah, where is it... SB and WoW are kinda lame/look lame imo.  I didn't like what blizzard did with d2 after they got to their expansion.  To say blizzard only produces quality/no problem games would be saying something similiar to mythic never screws up.

That's what kinda peeves me really.  Just because the original was somewhat good, it doesn't mean the sequel will hit par.  That's what a lot of people are buying into about blizzard games.

Fumble rates were FOUR TIMES HIGHER for archers... I can tell you Reinn fumbled constantly when I tried to play him, very frustrating. This fix alone is going to be pretty big. The see hidden change is also huge and will go a long, long way to fixing archer stealth issues.

Too bad they didn't give it to minstrels too.

Blizzard games are fun, and pretty well tested from what I have seen.  I think the main thing with D2 was battlenet play.  I never really think of it as an Online game.

The archer fumbles must be level based cos mine rarely ever fumbles at 25. Im not looking forward to this lol archers were just as effective as i liked them to be and I can see this being back to the days of constant deaths to archers. Nerf Stealth out fo the game altogether would fix a lot of problems.

Post by: Lifesbane on May 04, 2003, 06:42 PM
bolldar, its not level based, archers fumbled 4x as much as any other class in the game

and so what if you liked archers not being effective at all, is that fair to us? these fixes do 2 things: let us still be able to do SOMETHING against PBT (and more importantly stacked PBT) and allow us to get a faster shot off at reduced damage. this is only going to effect people with pbt on them...every single caster in the game (other then necro's i believe) has a self BT, against which nothing has changed. if anything this patch will help casters IMO because you self BT wont be overwritten by pbt, allowing you to more effectivly be guarded (i.e. theurg dies, or goes out of range and you being left without a BT)

and as far as nerfing stealth out of the game solving a lot of problems...can we get rid of nukes too? i have a problem with being nuked to death, and i dont much like melee either...lets just drop that too

I never said they weren't effective, far from it, I think there biggest problem has been Assassin types not difficulty shooting.

As for the level based fumbling, it that isnt true then I cant see the fumbles being that bad cos like i said and i proved this to Noreen, it simply doesnt happen to me. Possibly that im a Briton rather than the usual run of the mill Saracen archer has something to do with it and i slipped through there programming :P

My scout was a briton.  I actually didn't mind the fumbles and the misses.  The only thing that really bothered me was see hidden.  I feared going out of apk, so I waited ten minutes just for camo.

1.62g:

Bolts across the board have had their cast times reduced to 2.5 seconds.

!!! That right there makes fire wizards look a whole lot sexier.

Honestly, all these changes smack of desperation on Mythic's part.

Holy fucking crap.  Non-bolt casters are so dead.   Just one of those takes off half your life, 2 are insta death.

Good news for bolt casters. I may have to start playing my wizards again. =)

"Honestly, all these changes smack of desperation on Mythic's part."

I wouldn't call it desperation but more like 'marketing.' Every time a release date of a competitor's game approaches, all existing mmorpgs start doing things to keep players and entice retired vets to come back.

Bolts are only really useful against casters. Against anyone using a shield the damage is automatically halved, even before the absorb and af are factored in. Should get someone to bolt axe while he's chanting af; I bet the damage doesn't go above 100.

That's nice.

Now tell me again why I have to be picked on by every class in the game?

I'm undecided as to whether it's because you suck, or rather because you swallow.  I'll let you know if I figure it out.
