Title: Ywain
Post by: asup on Aug 13, 2009, 08:27 AM
I read on the VN Boards that Ywain might be up and running next week. If that is the case then I will quit playing my cab I made on Iseult. (I already have one on Bors.) When that happens I am going to use him to level my bot.  I am thinking of rolling a minstrel...I love speed classes and now its even more attractive that they can run two songs at once.

I'll be playing my crush Merc, and LB the Sorc. a Mini would be a pretty badass addition to that

I  took a look at some of the "new" expansions,  has anyone tried out the post-SI classes/races? Or whatever the expansion with the Reaver and the Necromancer.

Catacombs has several, and then there's this guy:

Are all the expansions free now?

good, i was thinking about buying Lotm.

New classes are fun. Reaver has been around for a long while, and is a pretty awesome class imo. Nerco's are ok, really strong. Then you have the Heretic who is totally OP from what i've heard.
And the Mauler, i know absoultely nothing about

necro's are pretty awesome in PvE. They're pretty buggy in rvr though, so most people keep theirs for farming/PLing.

What's the point of a new server when people can just transfer all their cheesed out characters to it.

If they make another server, they should just have it start fresh.  With old frontiers style pvp--and a few updates so milegate camping isn't as lame as it used to be.

That is what they are shooting at. To basically consolidate all the servers to one. Meaning more population!

With old school experience and grind spots.  Its much easier to get to 50 now.  Even old school 50 wasn't that hard to get... I was there too.

I'd be more concerned about dealing with all the rr10+ transferred characters.  Thanks but no thanks.

I'd rather deal with 1-50 again than going out against rr8 with ml 10 and maxed out artifact gear against a rr3 with player crafted pieces.

Yeah I hear you. Problem is those guys with uber chars wouldn't want to play on a new server, so im not sure how many people would really play a Daoc relaunch.

The current game is not too tough in rvr actually. You need to have a good template at level 50, and a buffbot, but then you're pretty much ready to compete

Ohh McH, i saw your brother in game the other day. He kept rezzing and buffing my noob Merc's ass everytime i'd get pwned :D

Yea, with a decent template (not real hard to get...most of it can be put together with new uber quest gear and a couple items off the housing merchants. My two SC'd pieces weren't even fully overcharged and I've got pretty much everything capped) you can hold up pretty well at low-mid RR. I got 30k RP's last night rolling with a group of low-mid RR people.

edit- We did get rolled a couple of times by high RR's when our timers were down, but its not a big deal - takes 2-3 min to get back in the action. I'd say we held our own pretty well though in general.

now i just need a desirable class. I've noticed that Melee is not very appreciated in this game anymore. Casters totally pwn melee in 1v1.

So now on the new server, all bountry point items will be tradeable, including the ML and arti tokens.
This basically means that everyone will be ML 10. with the amount of bounty points in ciculation, buying a ML tokens will be cake (plenty of people selling them). This will mean that the only real imbalance will be RRs.

I like that. Templating out a new char to 50 will be cake.

Yeah, he never really stopped playing.  :/  He was on the classic servers until the population dropped, then he switched back to the old ones.

That's not a bad idea with the tokens.  It'll give all the classic players incentive to transfer over and not have to deal with doing the master levels.  Though my bro says they're ridiculously easy compared to what they once were.

LB, Kirin, and Asup.. who else from Vengeance is rolling around on Alb now?

Title: Ywain
Post by: Lifesbane on Aug 22, 2009, 12:29 PM
Yea, ML's/Arties are way easier than they used to be. All of the ML's (and all the arties that i've done...) are now doable by a full group. I did all of the BG steps for ML1-9 with a raid - the entire thing took just less than 4 hours.

Darg and Red are also still playing.

I packed up the guild house tonight. We're gonna need to redecorate :P
I'll try to have the guild up and running tomorrow at relaunch. Ill use LB's bot the restart the Guild, and try to find a good lot for our house.
Ill let you guys know how all this crap is going.
I'll run all the necessaryxfer commands for the guild, but everyone make sure to transfer your chars over asap to reserve your names. Remeber you need to run the command on each level 50 char, not just the account

think there were some issues last night, so they stopped character transfers. The servers are down again, so theyre probably getting that up and running now.

It doesnt really matter which version of Ywain you transfer to, its mostly just for housing.

If you gotta piack a number, do number 5. That's where ill be sticking the guild house

BTW, super handy tool right here:

http://daocchatfixer.burec.net/

It lets you copy and transfer a character's UI settings to another character or server... nice not to have to reset quickbars/chatboxes for each toon your transferring. I kind of wanted to punch whoever designed the website, but the program worked.

Someone give us an update!

How's the new server? What's the population, pve, pvp like?

Title: Ywain
Post by: Dargoh on Sep 19, 2009, 12:34 PM
Population is about 2.5K a night on the new server
RvR is about half of this people and PvE the other half
So far the realms are ballanced in numbers.

PS: by the way i got us Guild house but waiting for Kirin to get in to give him the title so he can put all the stuff  that he got from the old one.

Interview with Mythic's Jeff Hickman (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/11/feature/3534/Dark-Age-of-Camelot-Jeff-Hickman-on-WAR-DaoC-and-the-Future.html)

"...Overall Jeff's presentation was a good one. It was afterwards though that I got the chance to pressure him about Dark Age of Camelot. Many players remember DAOC as having the best PvP experience in the online game space. It is often referenced as the prime model for PvP, oddly enough no one has captured its format again. The key to DAOC was that three factions, Albion, Midgard, and Hibernia were all fighting it out for control. Mythic put in some expansions that sadly diluted the experience over time. Trials of Atlantis and New Frontiers were two that many people say did the game in. When Jeff asked me if I would like to go back to DAOC the way it was in the beginning I got excited.

It is great when an Executive Producer says, what would you do with Dark Age of Camelot? Well I explained that maybe a sequel would be the way to go. Or perhaps revamp the game with an updated engine, new graphics and art, and keep the world in its old form with game play very close to the way people remember it. Jeff smiled, smirked is more like it, for a very long time. Jeff said that they are hiring right now on the Dark Age of Camelot team. We can only hope DAOC will see a rejuvenation back to its old awesome PvP self."

Subtle hints about them revamping daoc, or possibly even a sequel. I hope they dont change the core mechanics too much...having been playing it again, the older-style mechanics (interrupts, larger group size, every class cant do everything, etc) and the three realms (with different classes!) are what really made it shine in a lot of ways.

DaoC 2 would be pretty sweet...but that would be years away at best, and it looks like they are still trying to save WAR anyway.

Title: Ywain
Post by: Mchagen on Sep 23, 2009, 05:06 PM
They won't let War die but it's already dead.  I think they have six active US servers left and its been out just over a year.

DAoC was going strong several years after its release. It was after ToA when servers started to see small dips in population.

DAoC2 is what they should have developed instead of Warhammercraft.  What a crying shame..

Title: Ywain
Post by: Axecleaver on Sep 27, 2009, 07:25 AM
Warhammer should have incorporated some of the core design elements of DAOC - certainly a lot of folks were expecting that to happen, and it didn't.

From playing as a healer, in my mind the game would have been a lot different with a few small changes, such as the cast-lag bug (I believe this was a design choice, worked fine at release) and rebalancing healing to make it important. They were always trying to suggest that healing isn't fun so they wanted to make healing a secondary effect of doing damage or CC or something, and the implementation didn't really work.

interesting read.. I just wanted to share with you all a recurring experience whenever i tune pianos- I usually shut my eyes in order to focus on beat speeds, and whenever I tune fourths inverted with fifths, (if that makes any sense,) I'm constantly subjected to visuals of the south black mountains north of Camelot... Maybe it's because that Humberton fort had that specific bagpipe music, or maybe it's just the acid that must still be in my system...

In any case it's interesting that I can still remember almost every detail about the original Albion frontier, more specifically the south black mountains.. I also remember having a dream that I was on that weird bridge some years ago!

Angry rant from disgruntled employee or not, a lot of this post makes sense.

Me and Red we already tried Rift and we decided
that we were not happy with it.
It looks nice but is pretty much the same game stile warhammer was at least up to lvl30 that we got in Betta.
We both still having fun in Thidraki and Molvik so we didnt want to cancel DAoC unless is for a game that we really fall in love with and RIFT didnt do it for us:(
So for now at least we sticking with DAoC and we also jump in Warhammer when we are bored we have some twinked characters in there that even that are lvl10 in the free trial kick the ass of every lvl15 that gets close to us:)
