Not really... As long as you can run the game and the firewall at the same time. The only thing that would cause the firewall to slow your computer is the fact that you are running another program while running DAoC. But it shouldn't slow down your connection.

If you have a slow computer and want to increase it's runnign speed, then what that website you posted tells you is pretty accurate. Also, I would suggest defragmenting your computer every 2 weeks or so. (uder start > programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragger)

also a few things you might want to consider:
If you have norton antivirus, then disable auto-protect before you play DAoC. After you play, turn it back on ^^
Some firewalls also make NPCs dissapear lol, i doubt this is the case with you, but if you ever have this problem, just make sure that you enter the server's IP addy under trusted IPs.
There are three mandatory files that DAoC requires full access to the internet. Login.dll, game.dll, and patch.bin

Also, DAoC has a support website (http://support.darkageofcamelot.com/) that you might want to take a look at if you have any other questions.
