Zutroy, It depends on how much you want to play and how dedicated to that one tree you are. I've yet to get to Novice Rifleman but I've also played in the entertainment line and artisen line. As far as bonuses it gives you plusses to the main skills for that tree and gives you more 'Special Moves'.
FYI.....Commando is broken. :)

I made a Scout (I may live to regret that decision) on Sunrunner named Caohmin (I drew a blank when naming him, so sue me). How do I make money? What do I do with the meat I get from killing stuff?
I haven't encountered any bugs or had any crashes so far. The graphics are great and leaves fall from the trees. In the city of Nashal on Naboo, there were only a handful of other players there, maybe it's just not that big of a city. /shrug
1) As a scout, you can sell all the bones/hides/meat you collect at the bazaar. Check the buy prices to see what the going rate is (you won't make much though).
2) Do missions. Kill tasks are easy if you know how to clear the lair first; keep hitting "refresh" till something pops up that's less than 600m away so you dont have to spend 20 mins running around.
3) Kill humanish NPCs. Generally get around 100-200 credits each but they're alot harder than animals to kill (alot harder to find too).
p.s. btw, grats on using pathetic vitriol in a sentence!
I've been trying to do the missions, but I guess I've been picking ones that are a little too difficult. Yesterday I couldn't seem to clear the area without dying and when I did finally clear it, as soon as I attacked the lair, two more mobs spawned and I died again and gave up.
I searched for a med terminal near the cloning facility to buy some med supplies but gave up after searching for about 20 minutes, lol. Stupid newbie!
I made enough credits to train two different skill trees in both Marksmanship and Scouting, so I'm not failing completely! The Scouting skill lines don't seem to help me out in my newbie state, but seem to be laying groundwork for other skills/abilities that will become useful much later.
Should I just train Marksmanship as it seems to be most useful in killing things, since that's mostly what I'm doing? Is a Scout a good character to pursue? I'm not against deleting and starting over.
1) kill all the mobs around it.
2) shoot the hive once then spam the "Peace" button
3) wait 15 seconds for another mob to pop out
4a) if one does come out, go to 5
4b) if one doesn't come out, go back to 2
5) kill whatever mobs pop out (this damages the hive too)
6) once you've killed those, just repeat steps 2-5 again till the hive explodes.
Oh, and avoid any of the RSF missions. They generally make you kill some impossible red con commando that can actually perform a kill move on you while you're incapacitated (sends you back to the cloning center).
If you need med supplies, just train novice medic (costs 100 credits from NPC trainer) and make your own newbie stim packs. You'll have to buy inorganic materials from the bazaar unless you feel like spending hours surveying for it, but they generally aren't that expensive anyway.
If you NEED more credits let me know. I've got you and Nari on my friends list so when I see ya I'll try to hook up with you two and help you on the your missions. I also suggest you do Imperial Missions to get your Imperial Faction up. Because I know you arn't going to go Rebel on me. :)
I'd be willing to buy those hides off of you at Bazaar cost. Issue with that is the prices change from one city to another. :( But we can work out something fair.
Wait...aren't the Imperials the bad guys?
I'm not too worried about the selling the hides, I think credits will come as I play more, but thanks for the offer. I think I'll just try to do more missions for cash, it's seems like the optimum route for money.
I think I just need a clue on combat. I may have all the tools I need, but I'm just not using them right. Like for instance, I didn't know there was a 'point blank' ability for when a mob closes in to melee range. =)
I'll look for you tonight if you're on.
Imperials are not the bad guys. The rebel scum are. We have a very good goverment working and they want to destroy it thru lies and deceipt.
