Title: WoW Beta Signups!
Post by: Sodom on Jan 27, 2004, 09:24 PM
The official Blizzard Entertainment website (http://www.blizzard.com) has word that sign-ups to beta test World of WarCraft, their upcoming MMORPG, will begin on 6:00 PM PST Wednesday, January 28th:

QuoteAt 6:00 pm PST on Wednesday, January 28th, the signup period for the World of Warcraft Beta Test will officially begin. We will provide a link to the beta-test application right here in the news section at that time. Testers are not going to be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis, so you will be able to submit an application and receive equal consideration anytime during the signup period, which will end on Wednesday, February 4th at 6:00 pm PST. Please note that multiple submissions from the same household will result in complete disqualification.

For this initial phase of the World of Warcraft beta test, we will only be able to accept applications from Canada, Korea, and the US. The test for Europe and other countries around the world will happen later this year. Please do not contact us for further information regarding the beta test; we will be posting an FAQ in the days ahead.

Dang, I was waiting to see what sort of creative character name that Axlet would come up with for this game.  :)  She'd probably be something like Butterfly Potpourri for a few years, then after extended exposure to elementary school it'd change to Butterfly OrcFux0rUpper or something.

How lame. You have to sign up from the machine you're going to play from so I can't sign up from work. The sign up process scans your computer for your hardware so you can't manually input your specs.

That pricing survey at the end confused the hell out of me.

I just put in all low numbers so they don't gouge us. WTF kind of question was, "At what price point would you consider a game crappy if we priced it too low?" This question from a company that put out free Diablo II? Did anyone consider it crappy because it was free online play? No!

They did word it a lot more confusing than that though.

The only time I would consider something crappy would be when they don't charge you, but then don't make some obvious and/or necessary improvements because "hey, it's free, shut up and enjoy what you have".

I think they're trying to glean the value of Optimal MMORPG Slackitude - the exact price they can charge where people say "If they raise the monthly price even $.01 more, they better release some new content or I'm quitting."

I can't imagine a consumer in the universe who'll look at two equally fun games, and then decide to play the one that costs more simply because it costs more.
