Pretty thorough overview (http://www.worldofwar.net/articles/visit2004/index.php) based on a visit to Blizzard HQ. Instanced dungeons, I'm kind of split on these. On the one hand it's cool, we get content all to ourselves and we can take anybody we want inside. Would be nice to have a barrows like that without the necro scourge.

On the other hand I lament the loss of living dungeons with all those people you otherwise would never really meet and adventure with.

It says in the article that there's a meeting area with lower level mobs that people can form groups at inside dungeons. So you get kind of the best of both worlds there.

We'll need 10 people to form a guild, who's in? :)

Mrs. Axe said she might even give this one a try. I can see a lot of 'OMG LAG' complaints in my house.

Between the cartoonish graphics and my mistrust of a company who can hire a PR man who has a website where he professes to hate just about anyone but Americans im somewhat dubious. I was never a fan of the warcraft series so I doubt I would like this though ill be interested to hear what you think of it.

I got the feeling from reading that site that combat will be very simple, so not sure how much that would appeal to people but who knows it may change somewhat before its released. I did like that you can totally avoid PvP if you wish or choose it if thats your choice.

I'll try it out, just like I tried out Horizons. Whether I play there long depends on the enthusiasm of my fellow Vengies :)

Speaking of which, anyone check out Guild Wars?

Kinda of an MMORPG, without the leveling.

Shlonglor (sp?) got a high paying job doing basically nothing but playing games all day and yelling at people on message boards - you gotta respect him for that at least.

Also Boll have you ever seen Sanya's rantings before she became a PR tool? Even some of Amb's (homo)sexually-suggestive outbursts are no match for the stuff she said.

No I haven't ever seen anything Sanya had said before Zutroy, though from what little I have seen her say outside of game I wouldnt be surprised. The PR guy Blizzard has for WOW, I forget his name now has to have the most inflated ego of anyone I have heard of and is possibly one of the most ignorant people I have ever seen. I have no doubt any character he plays will be named FIGJAM. I think they were stupid to hire him though because his website was published on the WOW  forum by a shocked customer and he managed to offend a whole horde of people, bit like hiring a paedophile to run a day care centre, bad move all round. It doesnt surprise me that all he has ever done is play games.

What exactly is so offensive about his website? I saw it once a few years ago and I didn't find it all that interesting; it's just a weblog I think. It doesn't even seem to be running anymore (it's not loading up for me anyway).

Why are you condemning an entire company for an employee's personal website anyway? If he's doing something illegal like posting child pornography as you claim, then you should probably report it to the authorities.

Edit - FIGJAM:

Edit 2 - Deleted a really OT paragraph about warcraft 3.

I doubt you looked at the same website then, this was a link I was shown by Nydian from a series of posts about it on the WOW forums. I cant honestly recall his name just that he was fullfilling the same position for WOW as Sanya does for Mythic, he may have only been dealing with the non American side of things im not sure. Any company that can hire someone like that for a position where he is dealing with all the people he is deriding on his website has made a significantly bad choice. From the comments of the Europeans they pretty much all found it offensive as did I. I choose not to give my dollars to an asshole like him or a company stupid enough to hire him.

BTW I didn't claim he was a paedophile or into child porn.

ok, so lemme ask again since I haven't seen it:

What exactly is so offensive about his website?

I cant remember the exact commentary he made since its a fair while since i read it and would be lieing if I said I did, but he basically slagged French, Europeans, Canadians and Australians in some detail giving each separate treatment plus various other opinions showing his almost total ignorance and monumental ego. In so far as its possible to portray yourself as a complete rude & ignorant asshole he succeeded magnificently. Nydian may be returning to the game with the RvR expansion so you could ask him but i know he was quite offended by it also.

For me this was a game I was marginally interested in, so this was easily enough to turn me off it.

Meh, I'd just say grow some thicker skin. Who cares what he thinks about your country? As long as he's doing his job it shouldn't matter.

Why?? As I said I was only ever marginaly interested in the game anyway. Ive never liked any of the Warcraft series in the past as I find they dont hold my interest very long. I have to mistrust the thinking of a company who can appoint someone to a position like that who holds the views he does.

Id say someone who is in the position of dealing with the public from all those countries and professes to hate all those people except for Americans cant really be trusted to take the concerns of non Americans into account can he??

I dont seriously think Mythic gives a toss about there non prime time players either since everything they do in terms of game design is built around having large groups but at least Sanya hasnt publicly said she hates all non Americans (in so far as im aware lol) so it can be perhaps attributed to a design decision rather than bias. Thats true of most of these companies though there are some exceptions who cater for the non American audience and look after non prime time US audiences also.
