Lakers in 6 and I think I'm being generous. =)

could be the case, but that's why they play 'em, right?  :)

The one thing that's funny to me is how the national media makes the Lakers out to be this invincible juggernaut, but they only won two more games than Detroit did over the regular season.  And the two teams split when they played, and the Pistons didn't have Rasheed Wallace yet.

I think it's going to be fun to watch regardless.  The thing I believe that most works against L.A. is the schedule.  If Detroit manages to grab one of the first two out there, the next three are here.  That's almost an advantage to the lower seed, in my opinion.  It was like that the last time the Pistons won as well.  Portland came here and stole a game, but then the Bad Boys managed to win all three at Portland, lol.  Pwned.

omg, did the lakers suck last night or what? 28% shooting isn't going to get it done.

isn't it amazing how all the offenses that go up against the Pistons just happen to suck most nights?  I'm sure it has nothing to do with good defense.  ;)

The thing I'm glad they did was to play man-up on Shaq much of the time.  Guys like Payton and Malone have proven thousands of times that they can beat you if they're open, and doubling Shaq when he's in the low post doesn't really help much anyway, so let him get his points and make it hard for everyone else.  Shaq and Kobe can get 50-60 between them, but then all Detroit needs is 61.  :)  I was surprised, given the way they were both going during the game, that Shaq only had 15 or so shots and Kobe had like 25 or 30.  Shaq was making everything and Kobe... well... wasn't, so why not  just force feed the big man?  Make Detroit foul him or he scores, and he was even making a respectable amount of his free throws.  I'm not sure why they didn't go to that well every time down the floor, or at least more times.  Maybe Phil Jackson isn't the genius he's made out to be.  I mean, I think I would look like a good coach with Michael Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, Scottie Pippen, Karl Malone, Gary Payton, etc. etc. on my teams.

So, are you interested in changing your prediction yet?

The thing that pisses me off about watching laker home games is the obligatory celebrity shots they do. Like I care if adam sandler is sitting in the 3rd row eating a hot dog.

Shaq? Producing from the free-throw line? That's unpossible!

People still watch the NBA?

P.S. Cheering for the Lakers, much like cheering for the Yankees or the Cowboys, is like cheering for the house at the casino.

(unless you actually grew up in LA, NY, or Dallas)

so, Caoh, any predictions for tonight's game?  I'll say Pistons win 79-77 on a shot in the last 5 seconds.  I'll take another semi-blowout though, that would be cool too.

Wow, your long-winded diatribes have served to convince me; I'm now a Piston fan!

I'm sticking with the Lakers and in 6 games.

dude, diatribes?  damn, it's too late to edit my last post and change "predictions" to "prognostications", "auguries", or "prophesies" so that I can fit into the little-used big word club.  Damn you!

ok, here goes:  Game 3, Pistons by 15.  It seems that the 4 Hall of Famers lineup has been reduced to 2 Hall of Famers (Bryant and O'Neal), a Gimp (Malone), and a quivering wretch in the corner w/ no confidence (Payton).

They should've taken Malone out in the first quarter. He was getting burned by that pick and roll all night. Great D by the Pistons, got to give you that. Even when Kobe was getting good looks at the bucket, he couldn't score. Dissappointing for this Laker fan, but there's still quite a bit of basketball left.

This might sound odd, but I hope the Pistons lose another one so that we get at least 6 games out of this series, as long as they're more like game 2.  That was a pretty good game.  Last night wasn't really that good unless you're into watching beatdowns.  I liked the result, but after the third quarter or so it just seemed pointless.  I really don't want to stay up until midnight to watch Darvin Ham go up against Bryon Russell in garbage time.

It's over for L.A. Damn, that was hard to say, but no team has ever come back from being down 3-1 in the finals. I think they showed a graphic near the end of the game where 27 teams have been in that position and they all lost.

If the 'Stones win I think I'm gonna rent a bus and drive a bunch of crazies out to L.A. and burn Jimmy Kimmel's studio down.  Then again, this is one of the men who brought us The Man Show (and the Juggies with that), so I may have to rethink that strategy.

Missed it, what was the final score? I hope LA scored more than 70 points this time.

88-80, and it was that way for most of the fourth quarter.  I think the lead may have been as many as 12, but it was definitely within reach for L.A.   They just forgot to keep throwing the ball into Shaq.  The guy took 21 shots and made 16 of them.  That's pretty good.  On the other hand, Kobe took like 25 shots and made 8.  Not so good.  At some point they need to just say "screw it" and give Shaq the ball 35 times or until he falls over.  The other way isn't working.
