I bought the halflife 2 silver package through Steam (http://www.steampowered.com) the other day, and before long it had downloaded a bunch of other stuff, including an updated Counterstrike.
Much prettier, better sounds, controls feel more responsive than the original. I still get headshot more than I would like. And I kinda suck.
Anybody else playing CS: Source? If we get Sidd and Zaius to play we'll kick ass.
I may get involved in that (I suck too), and I know Redblade's a huge CS freak, although he's currently waiting for EQ2 I think. I've heard though that it's pretty much the same game running the new HL2 engine, so it's basically prettier but not much different. Is this true?
Somewhat. There are slight weapon changes and slight map changes that make big differences. But yeah, underneath that it is the same game.

So is there an ETA on Halflife 2 yet? I haven't heard anything about it since the source code got leaked like a year ago.
I think it went gold yesterday.
I saw some news stories that said the DVD box version will be on sale 11/1. If you buy the on-line delivery version through Steam it gets preloaded and encrypted now, and when the box version gets released it'll be unlocked and you can play right away. I think that's cool.
Can play your games on multiple machines as long as it's not at the same time -- that's cool.
Steam also monitors video driver versions and automatically patches. Good cause I'm lazy. So far I'm liking steam a lot. Only issue is it'll steal bandwidth for patching anytime it likes, so I sometimes have to close down the client.
Anyway I didn't want to make this into an ad for steam. But looks like 11/1 is the latest release date available.
And by "I think it went gold yesterday," I meant to say "Unless I have Halo 2 and Half Life 2 confused, it went gold yesterday." Which would have made me look less stupid today, when I realized I did have them confused.

After playing for two hours last night, I no longer believe I kinda suck. I know for sure I totally suck. Tried playing Dust with a poor team and went 3 for 12 (although one of those was a knife kill /pwn)
AWPs still suck ass.
Any of you played Americas army? Its very well done and free to play and download. Some annoying bugs in the anti cheating software but its very good for the most part/
Me and Zaius just played for an hour: Not so different - I haven't played the original in about a year, but it didn't "wow" me, graphically. And the barrels and junk getting knocked around is just annoying. Z is setting up a server - I'm sure he'll be around to post the details shortly.

Didn't you notice the weapon differences? AWP is still the same but the pistols are a little different, the auto-shotgun seems faster, and the AK-47 is definitely different.
Yeah, I was kinda confused by the addition of the new first rifle on the terrorist list: I only used it once, seemed very fast but very hard to control. The AK doesn't seem to be the beast it once was: I need to try it on some more levels.
Yep that's about right. The first terrorist rifle is horribly inaccurate but hits hard up close. Spray and pray. I usually buy the second rifle but ditch it for the M4 if I get one; they're still the super-accurate rifles they were, maybe even more so.
