Title: EQ2: Sony sells in-game coin, etc
Post by: Axecleaver on Apr 20, 2005, 01:22 PM
http://stationexchange.station.sony.com/

Due to launch in June, some servers will be "exchange enabled", meaning that real-world sale of in-game cash, characters, and items will be managed and sanctioned by Sony.

They'll also be taking a hefty cut of the proceeds.

My initial reaction was to hate the idea, but as long as the in-game economy is maintained, I guess it's better to have it in the hands of the game developer/publisher. I wonder what the economies on these servers will look like.

Somebody would have to monitor that.  I can easily see everyone w/toons that have fat cash, so the price of everything will skyrocket.  Could eventually be a bad thing.

I agree wholeheartedly that with Zutroy on this, note too that for all the money they spend on this new service that they never actually own anything they pay for with it.
