holy lateral when his knee was on the ground!

I was pulling for Texas though, it's about time.

The texas db picked off that pass that was ruled incomplete and USC ended up scoring a TD on that drive, so I guess that sort of balanced it out.

oh man, I thought the replay overturned that one and gave it to texas...

There was another one: the one where the guy fell on his back.

The amazing pick that I thought was a sure touchdown for USC was ruled incomplete and turned over in Texas's favor.

USC got some, at least what I thought to be, incredible spots of the ball in their favor.

Also, even with the late lateral, is there any doubt Vince would've scored anyway after you've seen the way he took over the game in the end? He wasn't going to lose :p

I know LenDale White got all the credit, but I think I could have run those dive plays behind that Matui guy or whatever. He was throwing Rodrique Wright around like nothing, and Wright is a bad mofo.

Just random thoughts about the game mostly, I am still in complete awe of Vince Young... I knew he could do it, I've watched them all year. Very few athletes though can take a game over like that in those circumstances. Thank God for DVRing the game.

I think VY needs to declare this year. He's from houston, so there's a good chance they'll pick him #1 overall this year. David Carr (current houston QB) is owed a huge roster bonus on Jun 1st, so they'll probably be looking for a new QB anyway . The only advantage to staying another year for VY is to win the heisman, but there's always a chance he'll get hurt or better passing QBs (like brady quinn) will emerge and drop his value in the '07 draft.

Even without a Heisman, he outperformed the last two Heisman winners head-to-head. He might stay out of loyalty (behind VY was Nordgren (fifth year Senior, gone) and Colt McCoy (freshman) and the chance of repeating. I'm torn between wanting to see him win a Heisman and Texas repeating... and wanting to see him in the NFL. :x

I just think the situation sets itself up so perfectly for VY with houston having the #1 pick. If Leinart had declared last year, like he should have, he'd still be in california and he'd have the largest contract ever given to a rookie (alex smith got around $60 million). Now, Lienart is probably going to be drafted by the Saints and have to deal with all the crap they're going through.

Is it really worth one more year of college ball if you have to spend the bulk of your pro career in some place like Cleveland or Arizona?

Well a lot of people (including myself) figure that Houston is going to nab Reggie, and stick with Carr. That'd set up New Orleans to pick Leinart or Young, and Tennessee to scoop up the other. Tennessee I wouldn't mind, but VY in NO would make me sad (and also an instant Saints fan).

Now if the Cowboys traded up into the top three....

welp looks like VY declared.

Cowboys trade two 1sts and 2nd round pick to NO for second overall pick...

well houston needs a new RB as badly as they need a new QB; that is to say, that don't really need either one. If the texans were doing what's best for the team in the long-term, they'd trade their #1 pick to some other team in the top 10 for a whole bunch of picks then grab the best OL in the draft.

anyway, I doubt parcells would ever trade up in the first round; in fact, I'm not sure if he ever has in his entire career as a head coach.

Yeah, I'd say the upgrade from Dom Davis to Reggie Bush is about the same as Carr to VY. But Bush gives them a playmaker who can line up at receiver, returner, or running back. At the same time, however, those offensive line woes are alleviated with a quarterback that can scramble as well as Vince can. You rush too hard on him, a lane opens and he busts a 20 yard run on you. Whoever the new head coach is, though, will pick Bush. He's the consensus can't-miss guy, and trading down or grabbing VY would immediately put him maybe not on a hot seat but at least a warm one if the exchange did not lead to immediate improvement.

While Parcells might not have ever traded up, he usually has more personnel control. Jerry Jones has more control over the team than I'd like to think, I'd bet, and maybe he wants to give big to get big with VY. He could sit for a half season to a year behind Bledsoe then we could shift gears and get that big play, consistent QB we'd need, 'quirky delivery' or not.

OTOH, Parcells has a history of recruiting strong OL and building the team around that. He certainly did that with the Patriots when Beldsoe QB'd there. I haven't really followed his contract or anything, so he doesn't have a say in the draft? I'm surprised to hear that.

He does have a say in the draft, but he's not completely in control over the Cowboys like he has been in the past, I believe. I forget the exact wording, but when they brought him in, they said something like him and Jerry Jones would decide personnel decisions equally, or together, or something.

The other half of that equation is that Parcells only has a couple years left, right? If he shored up his line, he'd get the benefits of it immediately. A QB would take a couple years to pay off. Plus Bledsoe isn't a bad QB, he just has a bad line.

It's almost a lock that the cowboys are going to draft an OL in the first round (if they don't trade down). True, Jerry does have some say in personnel, but Parcells is more or less running the show on draft day. The one big Jerry signing this past year, Peerless Price, got almost no playing time and was cut after the 10th week. If Parcells doesn't want a guy, he won't give him much of a chance to prove himself.

As far as Bill's future, I think it's mostly a year-to-year thing right now. He signed a new 2 year contract, which is basically a 1 year contract with the option of getting another extension next season. Bledsoe is going to be getting a new contract too; the one he has now is basically a 2 year deal so I think they're looking at extending him possibly another 2 or 3 beyond this season.

what i'm enjoying here in the Detroit area is the faction of know-it-alls in the media who have been screaming for them to cut Joey Harrington... yet they don't have a plan for who the next guy would be.  They keep saying to trade a low draft pick for someone like Billy Volek or Matt Schaub, but I'm guessing those teams aren't inclined to give those guys away.  Otherwise you have your pick of people like Aaron Brooks or maybe John Kitna, although Palmer's injury makes him a bit more valuable to the Bungles than he was just a few days ago.

I think Chad Hutchison and Quincy Carter are still available...

Volek and Schaub are both too valuable to their teams behind McNair and Vick because of their injury history to merit anything less than a first day pick. IMO Joey is in the same boat as Carr (though I haven't watched nearly as many Detroit games as I have Houston games so I could be way off target) in that he's got a ton of potential and needs more blocking before he can do much. They also I think had a bad scheme, what with the three first round big, down-the-field targets at receiver playing a west-coast style offense.

Simms or Griese might be a good fit if they become available though...

As for Dallas, if not VY, I'd love to see them get that Matui guy or whatever his name was. The USC lineman was straight up mauling people.

yeah, i think you're right.  basically, when harrington came back from being benched for jeff "moon ball" garcia, he pretty much said screw the scheme and the safe check-downs and started gunning it down the field.  He tossed 3 td's vs. the steelers in the last game, and that was a game that pittsburgh had to win to get into the playoffs, so it wasn't like they had their 4th string in there.  the guy was the two-minute-drill master at oregon, and even though that's vs. pac-10 defenses i can't imagine that he just forgot how to throw the ball.  I think he was conditioned to avoid the dangerous throws (and turnovers) and to get rid of the ball fast to avoid sacks, so we had tons of swing passes and 3 yard tosses to tight ends on 3rd and 8, which doesn't get you very far.  I'm personally in favor of  him sticking around here, if for no other reason than there's really not much else available that's any better (chris simms?  i mean, c'mon, really?), at least not without mortgaging your future by giving up a fairly high draft pick.  Still, I don't care if you have joe friggin montana back there, if you've got a bunch of matadors playing offensive line (or at least one on any given play), you're not going to have much success.

Chris Simms is better than he gets credit for, though I do agree that Harrington's (potentially) better than him and Griese.

They need to draft a good lineman, and they need to bring in an offensive coach. If they could, whoever they get for a head coach, get Mike Martz for a coordinator (because let's face it, he can not manage a game and always needs a player to be a goat... whoever hires him to be head coach needs a good slap)... they'd be in much better shape.

While I'm throwing out far-fetched ideas... How about a Vince Young - Roy Williams reunion?

Yeah, he started a few games his Freshman year.

He's 30-2 as a starter. 32 games total, 13 this year, 12 the year before (no conference championship game) and then the last (or I guess technically first) 7 his Freshman year.
