ohh crap...
Has EA ever had a successful online game? I can't think of one.
they made Sims Online... which I believe has the lowest player base of any currently active MMORPG. It was sort of a half assed effort to try to get into the market.
i was
really worried when i first heard this, but not so much any more.
here's some stuff from the devs about the buyout:

edit - more acurately, its a link w/ info and links to stuff from the devs :)

well... if you consider Battlefield as an MMO, then EA have been sucessful with that, but rpg style they have had none
battlefield seems more like battle.net was for diablo, i.e. non-persistent games.
but yeah, they did a fairly good job with that.
i liked archon II on the commodore 64, it was an EA game.
Archon I was much better than Archon II.
So I guess Mythic is EA's entry into MMORPG's.
well see how it goes.. they probably got wind of Warhammer and decided that it would be a good game to enter with
Scott Jenning's blog commentary (http://www.brokentoys.org/2006/06/20/ea-buys-mythic/#comments) has some good info about EA's track record in the MMO area. I had no idea they had so many crash-n-burn's to their name.
Warhammer is described as "A workable PvP-biased WoW-clone." lol, that's flattering, I guess?
