What everyone up to?
sup kir.
been busy as hell w/ summer school... it's finally winding down though (finals are next week).
I've been playing alot of FIFA'06... I'm doing manager mode on my 6 or 7th season. I took a team from English League 2 all the way to winning the Premiership. Now I think I might try switching clubs and going over to the Spanish league or something.
At the end of August I'm planning a trip to San Diego w/ a few days in Vegas. I might go catch a Padres game if Chan Ho is pitching
I've been busy with some extracurricular work activities -- some old clients calling me up looking for help outside the normal work channels, so that's been some welcome $. That's wound down though, so I'm enjoying the last bit of summer when it's bearable outside.
Been playing Attack! (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/6752) with Axelet lately, she's got me totally owned at the moment and we're just mopping up a game that's been pretty much over for the last week or so. I'm waiting to see if she makes any big mistakes I can capitalize on, but so far she's been perfect.
You ought to check out Zombies!!! (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/game/23972) (exclamation theirs). It's good. Played it at the lake with my wife's family. Sodom originally discovered it, but he's a little girl who runs from conflict with the undead and tries to find a safe corner to hide in. News flash: nowhere is safe from stumbling corpses! Especially not government enhanced zombies or zombie dogs.
Just went out and got it at lunch. Will let you know how it goes.
There's a lot of expansions for this thing, geez. There was about $100 worth of stuff at the local gaming store.
Yeah, the Zombie Corps(e) - Millitary Base expansion is so-so, but the Zombies 4: The End... (it's not, there's a 5th one) expansion is really good. Zombie dogs in the woods. It plays well standalone. You have to prune the deck and play tiles a little when you use an expansion and the regular game, otherwise the expansion tiles come into play too late and usually don't see much action. I haven't tried the Mall one or the school (I think that's the 5th).
The stereotype at the gaming store seemed really excited about the 4th expansion. "You should get that one too, it's got zombie dogs! They're really awesome!" We played last night and got acquainted with the rules, made a few mistakes (we didn't realize the non-named tiles got zombies in them, so it was too easy at first.)
I like the game mechanics, very simple. It looks like in the beginning you're both trying to kill zombies as fast as you can to get 25, but as they populate faster you're trying to get away from them later in the game. Pretty cool so far and the game length seems about right around an hour or so.
Be sure to check out the website (http://www.twilightcreationsinc.com/zombies/) for scenarios and variants. To be honest, I prefer the avoidance game because it more accurately represents the source materials. In my experience, it's too easy to get 25 kills before you even see the helipad come into play. For that reason, I like to shuffle the helipad into the bottom half of the deck rather than put it on the bottom. Additionally, I'm big fan of any rules that make the zombies tougher (or faster) and penalize player respawns.
We bought the second edition of the game in the store, which has the "shuffle into the bottom half" rule integrated into the game already, and red heart counters instead of black, so they're easy to distinguish from bullets. We haven't tried avoidance yet, I'll give that a shot.
